UP Diliman ROTC creates, launches online LMS

University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Unit continued to live up to the university tradition of honor and excellence and the shibboleths of the UP Corps of Cadets of duty well-performed, honor untarnished and country above self by developing a learning management system (LMS) for the conduct of online ROTC training.

Facing limitations in available technology, materials and equipment, cadet officers or UP ROTC, Iskos and Iskas themselves, created the learning materials and procedures that allowed UPD ROTC to provide online military training to their cadets. Supported by the UPD Department of Military Science and Tactics and the UP Vanguard, Inc. (an alumni organization of UP ROTC advance graduates from all UP campuses), they successfully launched UPD ROTC LMS during the opening ceremony for Military Science (MilSci) 1 held on Saturday, 12 September 2020.

The LMS provides learning resources and assessment tools for the cadets—students enrolled in the ROTC component of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) —to access online. It is composed of ten (10) modules that contain readings, video demonstrations and other online resources that cadets can work on each week.

Online ROTC training will have synchronous and asynchronous sessions throughout the semester. Synchronous sessions (everyone is in the same platform at the same time) allow for consultations and further discussions. For the most part, asynchronous sessions allow cadets to go through their modules at their own pace.
