Cadets literally hit the ground running on the their 2nd and 3rd TD last June 26 and July 3. Running was introduced by UP ROTC commandant Col. Roland Rodil as the primary physical fitness regimen of all cadets and cadet officers.
Gone are the days when cadets and cadet officers were immediately thrust into tough road runs as part of their physical training. This time, a scientific approach to running was introduced by the UPROTC to make running an enjoyable and injury free activity by the cadets.
Col Rodil invited BGen Jovenal Narcise (Ret.) to share his experience in running for fitness and to give tips in making running an enjoyable training activity. A lecture and running clinic was given by Gen Narcise (www.baldrunner.com) at the Vanguard Bldg last June 26 for all cadets and brods. Practical and actual demonstration was later held at the quadrangle. The cadets were joined by brods and UP Rainbow Rangers.
On the 3rd TD, joggers around the Academic Oval gave way to the more than 60 cadets, brods and UP Rainbow Rangers who ran impressively as unit. The UPROTC joggers were divided between novice/first time joggers who walked and run. The second unit was composed of intermediate and advanced runners led by Col Rodil. Brods, UP Rainbow Rangers and some cadets went around the academic oval twice.
After the jog Col Rodil and Gov. Emy treated the brods and other runners to hot pandesal and coffee at the UP Vanguard Building. We hope that more brods will join us in the coming Saturdays not only as a way to stay fit but as a form of fellowship among brods and a show of solidarity to UP ROTC cadets.
