To start off their 8th Training Day, the cadets had a diagnostic physical fitness test. They performed as many push-ups and sit-ups as they could, each exercise for a duration of two minutes. A 2 km run around the Academic Oval followed. Sponsors time boosted spirits and the cadets resumed preparation for the second phase of the RAATI.

The cadets began their double training day with a lecture on military leadership. Assisted by the CNCOs,they took a leadership test to determine which aspects of themselves they still need to develop to become better leaders. As a diamond is created by carbon, heat and pressure, a good leader is made by character, knowledge, and application. This could be seen in the examples of the CNCOs. During the parade practice, Platoon Sergeants led their platoons under the direction of their Platoon Leaders.

The UP ROTC cadets held the 4th Training Day on a Saturday seemingly like any other. Training on this year’s Valentine’s Day began on the third floor of the vanguard building. The newly trained cadet non-commissioned officers (CNCOs) took charge of their fellow cadets. They were all taught the basics of signal communication. This included a comparison of the different communication methods, the phonetic alphabet, the Morse code, and cryptography. These are things that the cadets will have to remember as they will be challenged with having to decrypt announcements and reply in coded messages as well. Parade practice in preparation for the RAATI followed. The cadets stayed snappy despite the heat of the late morning sun. The cadets were also drilled in the forming, dressing, and inspecting of their platoons.

In UP ROTC, the university motto is never irrelevant – honor and excellence. In every training day, we were pushed to excellence by the authority of our cadet officers – may it be in practical exercises such as rappelling, first aid and marksmanship or in the execution of platoon drills and practicing the SOPs. Indeed, a hundred and two years of existence has not tarnished the honor of the UP Corps of Cadets – and it was a great honor to be part of the ranks.

UP ROTC still accepting students

Quoted from UP Diliman CRS:

“The NSTP Common Module will end on 27 October 2014 (Monday). Academic units must redistribute students from their NSTP common module and generic pairs to their corresponding program components using the Class Redistribution module.

The NSTP Change of Matriculation period for the First Semester AY 2014-2015 is scheduled on 27 October 2014 (Monday) to 31 October 2014 (Friday). Students may opt to change their NSTP program components during this period.

Redistribution process is same as the ChangeMat process. It’s not too late to take the challenge and be a better person than you are today. Enlist UP ROTC. For inquiries you may visit Vanguard Bldg Room 105 or contact CMaj Joy Avelino at (0905) 434-1840
