It was a day of inspiration and enlightenment. On August 28, 2010, two members of the UP Vanguard Class of 1981 imparted their experiences from being former cadet officers of the UP ROTC and how they applied the lessons they learned to their lives outside the Corps.
Vanguard Jesus Alfonso Carpio, a manager of Shell Offshore Ventures, shared his insights about “Leadership Challenges and Opportunities” to the cadets as part of the 9th Training Day of the UP ROTC. He said that the knowledge he gained from the Corps greatly contributed to the successful life he is leading today.
Meanwhile, Vanguard Dan Albert De Padua, the Corps Commander of Class ’81 and currently the Head of Broadcast Operations at the Associated Broadcasting Company (or TV5 as we are more familiar with), shared his acquired knowledge about leadership skills to the Cadet Officers, COCs and some cadets during his special lecture in the afternoon. Using a simple problem solving activity, he illustrated key factors in achieving success in any endeavor. He gave useful tips on how to handle people and organizations as well as techniques that one could employ to foster a good working relationship within a team in order to accomplish a common goal.
