Four buildings arranged in a square formation constitute the Department of Military Science and Tactics quadrangle. This serves as the main training ground for the cadets. After the semestral break, as the cadets continue to train for Military Science 2, they were surprised with the ‘new look’ of the DMST.
The four buildings (East Hall, Atienza Hall, Quiaoit Hall and Peralta Hall) were repainted during the sem break by the soldiers from the 51st Engineering Brigade, which is under the command BGen Silvino A Alcabasa AFP, the UPD ROTC Commandant. The buildings were enhanced with a light cream paint touched and highlighted by dark peach.
The painting was financed by the family of General Rigoberto Atienza. Named after him is the north side building of the quadrangle. He is a graduate of UP Vanguard class 1933. He was considered as one of the best AFP Chief of Staff under the administration of former President Diosdado Macapagal (UP Vanguard Hall of Fame).
Part of the beautification of the DMST compound is the allotment of time for the general cleaning during training days of the cadets. The soldiers from the 51st Eng’g Brigade and the cadets cooperated for the clean-up drive and planting of Dill plants around the complex.
One big transformation of the complex is the leveling of the ground near the UP Vanguard memorial and flag pole. The bulldozer sponsored by the 51st Eng’g Brigade created a new and bigger parade ground for the cadets during pass and review.
